Artist Statement: The piece didn't end up how I imagined it. When I was concepting ideas for this piece I imagined the mug would have more of a curving shape rather than a cylinder shape that it ended with. The piece is very stylized in my opinion. I feel this way due to mostly using recycled materials which I enjoy using as it gives off this satisfactory feeling I can't describe that well. The biggest tool that I used was the Hot Glue Gun. Using hot glue I could stick together the parts of the mug to give it that "mug-y" shape along with strengthening different parts of the piece if need be. Another tool I used was Mod Podge. As previously stated, hot glue played a big part in this piece. This piece was the first time using the hot glue gun. I don't know if I really enjoyed using the hot glue gun or if I hated using it. The tool made everything much easier to put together but then much more frustrating. I don't know. Either way, I'll probably use the hot glue gun again. Like most of my pieces, I didn't really have a specific inspiration. Most of the thoughts came about from the planning phase. There is one part of the piece that was inspired by something though and that is the magazine pictures. I got this idea from the sketchbook which I thought didn't use this concept to its fullest potential. (And I've still haven't found a way to reach that limit yet...) Still, all in all I like this piece. There are various ways that the piece can be utilized and I think the experience overall has been an educational one. There is a hole on the bottom though... That came about from a lack of planning. It seems like 3 pages of notes still isn't enough to make a good piece of art for me. Maybe I should plan less... Oh well. I'll just say the hole is a "feature" that I "purposefully" put there for specific "reasons". DAY 1DAY 2 DAY 3
